I wanted real drums and bass for this song, and I still think it needs something to beef it up. But it doesn't look like anything will happen, so this is the final version.
Thanks to Paul (PVD) for another great lyric and for letting me compose a melody for it, and to the ever patient Errol (Chesook), who's voice is perfect for ballads like this.

Soul At Rest
(Paul Dempsey, 2010)
Once I climbed mountains
That I encountered
Just to say I could
Once I ran every race
Held onto the lead
And beat them all good
Once it was important
That I always succeed
No matter the cost
I use to keep records
Tracking all the gains
Never saw what I lost
Now I am who I am
Never beat my chest
I am who I am
Just a soul at rest
Yes, I am content
Life's is not a test
I am content
Being a soul at rest
Once you were at my side
But I left you behind
I live with that regret
Thinking of the good times
Your face is the one I see
The one I'll never forget
Things tend to change
They get rearranged
When it's all said and done
What was once number one
Doesn't seem to matter ......
Now I am who I am
Never beat my chest
I am who I am
Just a soul at rest
Yes, I am content
Life's is not a test
I am content
Being a soul at rest
Regards,
Steffen
